Altai's past is rich, multifaceted and interesting. The Altai Territory has a great cultural, historical, archaeological potential, on its territory there are more than five thousand attractions, some of which are recognized as objects of world importance.

Altai Territory can rightfully be considered the "Cradle of Humanity". There are many archaeological excavations and historical artifacts on the territory of the region. For more than 30 years, archaeological work has been carried out in the Denisova Cave, located in the Soloneshensky District of the Altai Territory. It was here that a special Altai species of ancient people was found - "Denisovsky man". The cave is one of the UNESCO heritage sites. There is free access to the cave, everyone can visit it and take part in the excavations.

There are unique museums in the region, many of which are associated with the names of great compatriots. Tourists can visit the small homeland of designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, writer, actor and director Vasily Shukshin, actor Valery Zolotukhin, poet Robert Rozhdestvensky, second Soviet cosmonaut German Titov and others.
