Built on the initiative of the head of the Kolyvano-Voskresensk factories P.K. Frolov, it was opened in 1827. The museum has shared the fate of our entire country - at different times, various institutions were located in the building.

Since 1985, a museum of the history of the development of the mining industry has been reopened in the building. The collection of school museums created by V.M. Tikhomirov, the hall of geology (mineral) was created by the geologist V.M. Chekalin, and the hall of archeology by archaeologist Yu.P. Alekhine.

The museum is located in the historical part of the city. And it is a one-story brick building. This is the first building in Western Siberia built specifically for the museum; an architectural monument of the first half of the 19th century, a historical monument associated with the activities of P.K. Frolov.

The museum has about 16,000 exhibits. The museum has three halls: archeology, history of the development of mining, mineral. Two cannons are kept in the courtyard of the museum; in the 18th century. standing on the redoubts of the Zmeinogorsk fortress. More than 15,000 people visit the museum annually, not only from Russia, but also from abroad.
