In 1978, the museum of Vasily Makarovich Shukshin was opened in the village of Srostki. People immediately fell in love with the house near Piket, and in 1989 the wooden building of the Srostin school, which Vasily Shukshin graduated from and even taught a little in it, became the main building and a repository of thousands of exhibits. In 1999, when Shukshin would have turned 70, the museum acquired the status of the All-Russian Memorial Museum-Reserve.
The scientific work of the museum does not stop for a day. Collections of articles "Shukshinsky Vestnik" are published, the museum site is actively working, a lot of correspondence is being conducted. Many events are held by the museum-reserve for the year, but the main were and remain the Shukshin days in Altai. It is in Srostki, at the Picket, that the main event of these days takes place. Here awards are given to art workers, here the best people of the country talk about the most intimate.
