House under the spire

Altai Territory, Barnaul, pr-t. Lenin, 82

The symbol of the city of Barnaul, an object of cultural heritage of regional significance - the House under the spire. It is located on the main square of the city - October Square and is inseparable from the history of the city.

Barnaul was born as an industrial city at a silver smelting plant. It grew and expanded upward from the Barnaulka and Ob rivers. The city was actively moving and changing its appearance. So, wooden buildings are replaced by stone mansions of merchants, and they, in turn, are houses of the Stalin era. In 1956, a house appeared in Barnaul, testifying to the end of the difficult post-war times. This is the House under the spire, the first floors of which are given over to shops and cafes, and the apartments are an example of the comfort of that time. For several decades, it was the best and largest grocery store in the city, with a large selection of products and, most importantly, a long opening time - until 11 pm.

The huge house, stretched across two streets, at the same time cozy, decorated with architectural elements, completes the period of Stalinist neoclassicism in architecture. The building was equipped with a clock tower; a pointed fifteen-meter spire still flaunts on the tower. The height of the house and the tower with a weather vane is 46 meters.
